Walking and Cycling
Cycling is extremely popular in France
and very
well catered for. Not only is the countryside around the gite
perfect
for cycling, but there is
also a mountain biking centre at near-by Jugon-les-lacs.
Here it is possible to
hire bikes and even take guided cycle tours
around the lake
as well.
There is plenty of good walking country in the area too.
The
village has miles and miles of waymarked walks, including a nature walk
which runs
along the stream at the bottom of the meadow behind the house. For
those who like a really good hike , one of the official long
distance paths - GR34 the coastguard path, travels
the North Brittany
coast from Morlaix to Mont St-Michel. Another official path, the grand
randonee de pays du
tour du poudouvre also passes close by, a few kilometres
north of the cottage.
Horse Riding
The nearest riding centre is at
Plelan-le-Petit
just 4kms away.
Watersports
There is plenty for water sports
enthusiasts in the area. The coast is a haven for sailing, wind surfing
and
kayaking. Inland Jugon
les lacs,
just 10 minutes away is home to a French National sailing
School centre on
its lake. It offers sailing, wind surfing , canoeing
and rowing.
Markets
There are a number of local markets
worth a visit. In high season it is possible to go to a
market within a
few minutes drive on every day of
the week, except Monday when you will have to travel a little further
afield.
Sunday - Plouer-sur-Rance
Tuesday - Caulnes
Wednesday - Broons
Thursday - Dinan
Friday - jugon-Les-Lacs
Saturday - plancoet
History
Whilst not crawling with chateaux like
some parts of France, Brittany is rich in history. There are
obelisks
and stone circles to be found at a wide
number of locations throughout Brittany, like this one at Pleslin.

Corseul, just a 5 minutes drive away is home to a roman temple of mars, pictured here.
There are more Roman ruins in Corseul itself.

Brittany is also rich in Arthurian legend.
Shopping
For a good day out shopping
it is worth taking
a trip to Rennes, about an hour's drive away, which as well as
being an
interesting medieval
town also has a bustling commercial centre.
Although smaller, Dinan, St Malo
and St Brieuc are much closer
and still offer good shopping
facilities.
For your daily
needs there is a small supermarket at Plelan-le-Petit and two bigger
ones , plus various other
out of town style stores like a
DIY shop and a small organic foodstore on the outskirts of Dinan.
